About Andy Baker

Andy Baker leads Hawaii Nui Brewing

Andy Baker is the president and CEO of Hawai’i Nui Brewing, producer of the locally brewed and bottled Mehana and Hawai’i Nui ales.

A strong advocate of local production in Hawai’i, Andy is committed to brewing and bottling the finest hand-crafted ales and lagers.

A Brit by birth, Andy Baker came to Oahu as a child.  He graduated from Kalani High School and the University of Hawai’i. Andy resides in Honolulu with his wife, Ruth, a fellow Kalani High School alum. They have two daughters.

A long-time contributor to the microbrewing scene in Hawai’i, Andy Baker is known locally for his encyclopedic knowledge of ales and lagers. His avocation is educating the public about hand-crafted brews. That’s how he earned the nickname, Beer Kumu. In the beautiful Hawaiian language, Kumu means respected teacher.

Andy has a true passion for well balanced, island style beer. He is tireless in promoting the world-class nature of ales and lagers brewed in Hawai’i. With Ruth Baker, Andy created the popular “Hops & Grinds” beer tasting events as a forum for exploring beer-and-food pairings.
